How is price per unit calculated?

Price per unit = total price ÷ total quantity, converted to a common base unit. Weight converts to grams then displays per 100g; volume converts to milliliters then displays per liter; count is simply price ÷ number of items.

Why does the bigger package sometimes cost more per unit?

Stores don't guarantee bulk sizes are cheaper per unit. Sales, private-label pricing and "family size" markups can make a smaller package the better deal — which is exactly why comparing unit price, not sticker price, matters.

Can I compare a bag of flour to a bottle of oil?

Only within the same unit family — weight compares to weight, volume to volume, count to count. The tool groups your products by family automatically and compares each group separately.
