What a mockup video is actually for

A screenshot on its own asks the viewer to imagine the product. A screenshot inside a device that turns, catches light and casts a shadow does not — it reads as a thing that exists. That is the whole job of a mockup video, and it is why an app-store listing, a launch post and a landing-page hero all reach for one. The difference between a flat PNG and four seconds of motion is usually the difference between a post that scrolls past and one that stops.

Real perspective, not a skewed rectangle

The device here is a rectangle in three dimensions. It is rotated about all three axes, moved, and projected through a camera with a focal length you can change — so what you get on screen is a genuine projection, where the near edge is longer than the far one. A CSS transform on a flat image can only produce a parallelogram, which is why tilted mockups made that way look subtly wrong: the vanishing point is missing.

The Lens slider is the same control a photographer reaches for. A long lens flattens the perspective and reads as a product photograph shot from across a room; a short one exaggerates it and reads as a phone camera held too close. For most product work, longer is better — the default sits at the flattering end.

Tall screenshots and wide screenshots want opposite things

A tall app screenshot is narrower than it is long, so scaling it to the width of a phone screen makes it overflow — and that overflow is exactly what the scroll animations use. A wide desktop screenshot has no overflow at all; scaled the same way it covers a fifth of the screen. The obvious fix, stretching it to fill, skews every straight line in your interface, which on a screenshot of a user interface is the most visible artefact there is. So a wide shot is centred at its true aspect over a blurred, blown-up copy of itself, the way a video player handles a mismatched frame. Both cases are handled automatically; the How it sits control is there for when you want something else.

Which motion to pick

For a launch post or an ad, an entrance — Tilt in, Drop in, Pop — gives the clip a beginning, which matters when it plays once in a feed. For a website hero that loops forever, pick something marked as looping: Float, Orbit, Sway or Breathe join back to their own first frame, so the repeat is seamless. If the point is the product rather than the packaging, Scroll the screen and Tilt & scroll keep the device still and move the content, which is what actually shows someone what your app does.

Everything happens on your device

Your screenshot never leaves the browser. It is decoded locally, drawn onto a canvas, and the video is recorded from that canvas by the browser's own encoder. There is no upload, no account, no queue and no watermark — and because there is no server, there is nothing to be slow when the tool is busy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is anything uploaded?

No. Your screenshot or recording is read locally, the mockup is drawn onto a canvas in your browser, and the video is recorded from that canvas by the browser itself. There is no account and no server sees your content.

What can I put inside the device?

A screenshot — PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG — or a screen recording in MP4, WebM or MOV. You can also paste a screenshot straight from the clipboard, which is usually where one starts life.

Which devices can I use?

Thirteen of them: iPhone (Dynamic Island), iPhone (notch), Android (hole-punch), centred punch-hole, home-button phone, screen-only phone, tablet in portrait and landscape, laptop, desktop display, browser window, watch and a bare 16:9 screen. Each is drawn to real hardware proportions, so what you put inside is the right shape.

What file do I get, and is there a watermark?

A WebM video with no watermark, which uploads directly to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X and Facebook. Safari records MP4 instead, which is equally accepted. You can also save the current frame as a PNG.

Can I export with a transparent background?

For a PNG, yes — set the background to Transparent and the exported still has a real alpha channel. For video, no: the codecs a browser can record do not carry alpha, so a transparent video export would come out black. That is a browser limitation, not a paywall.

Why does exporting take as long as the clip?

The browser's recorder timestamps frames by real time, so a five second clip has to be handed over across five real seconds. In exchange every frame is rendered deliberately rather than sampled from the preview, so nothing is dropped and the result never stutters.

The export came out in slow motion

The tab was in the background while it recorded. Browsers slow timers down in tabs you are not looking at, which stretches the timestamps. Re-export with the tab in front and leave it there until it finishes.

Does it work with a screen recording?

Yes — the recording plays inside the device while the mockup animates around it. A video source is captured in real time rather than frame by frame, because seeking a video to an exact time on every frame is too slow to keep the recording's timing honest.

Can I use the videos commercially?

Yes. The device art and animations are our own original work, and anything you export is yours to use — including for clients and paid campaigns — with no attribution required.

Are my settings saved?

The device, motion, scene and frame you choose are kept in your browser, so coming back finds it as you left it. Your screenshot is not stored — a screen recording would fill the browser's storage quota — so that needs adding again.
